Does anyone know which company performs these “nip tuck” surgeries to the E-type???
In the vid where James May tests the old XJS he says the company responsible for the mods is called Knowles Wilkins but it seems they’re not into E-types…
Must not go to many classic car shows. I am all for using modern mechanics as long as it looks like it belongs. Instead of webers on my porsche I have TWM fuel injection. Looks just like webers but works so much better. I also use a modern transmission. I can do without a classic transmission. But it depends on the car. If I don’t care about it keeping up with modern cars then I would love to have it as original.
Thats if you are looking at Aston Martins that are in mint condition and E-types that are fixer uppers. A series 1 E-type like he is drving in this video is just about $100k here in the US. Later models are not worth as much but if you get an E-type you want the series 1 4.2. The DB5 is really not my cup of tea. Not nearly as sexy as the jag is.
Well lets see… A human of the 21st wont be satisfied with a car just because it’s a classic. A man might but if only he/she wants it as a display. If you want to have a classic car that would be drivable and survive today’s world we really should make a few adjustments but not too much that it will ruin the car. It’s like how the new rolls royce phantom looks old school yet it’s as modern as a cell phone.
Just like that Jaguar in this video with modern brakes, suspension, tires, etc.
I want either an Aston Martin DB9 or a Jaguar XKR BUT I would love to have an Aston Martin DB5 with modified brakes, engine, suspension and so on and so for then have bluetooth (if possible), MP3 socket, air conditioning, stereo, 3 disk cd changer and a satnav. Just think having such a classic car with those mentioned installed makes you look like James bond. It may be expensive but hey, It’s worth it and if you could afford an Aston, why not?
yea very true, clarkson,s its a honda and its overtaking me, like its a basic small modern family saloon when its a bloody 2.4 litre multi valve sports saloon high tuned
clarkson know zero about cars, he likes slagging them off becuase they dont do 150mph, hes a multi millionair toff thats looks down his nose on cheap cars, he thinks everybody should drive a brand new ferrari at 170mph passed primary schools at 3 pm in the afternoon
when new the aston martin cost twice the price of an e-type, the aston was a fast posh car for the wealthy people like jeremey clarkson as opposed to the e-type that could be owned by a manager of a woolworths store
Maybe the DB5 is the slowest car ever on the Top Gear board. So what? Look at it! And only a hundred were made. I still have my Corgi model of the James Bond version, complete with guns that pop out of the front, ejector seat and rear shield popping out.
Joz,
Could not agree more. The Honda race is pointless. The point of this video is that there are modernization techniques that can be had for your classic Aston or E type. Still though both cars are timeless and classic in their own right.
The race against the Honda really is pointless. The DB5 and E-Type were just as fast in their day when compared to the Austin A60s and Ford Zodiacs of the time as a modern DB9 or XK would be against an Accord or a Mondeo. As you say, all it proves is that (surprise, surprise) automotive technology has progressed a bit in 45 years.
The Cinematic Orchestra - All That You Give
It’s off of the album “Every Day”, and the selection used at 5:20 can be found 1 minute into the song.
Anyone know the music being played at 5:20???
it’s called Eagle and it’s based in UK

Who cares about the age because the cars are beautiful.
Jaguar E Type costs in Australia around $39,000 and the Aston Martin around $200,000

jag= austin powers

The Type E and DB5 have nothing on a Ferrari 250 or 275 spider.

The GT40 was a dedicated racing car. These were cars you could buy to go down to the shops. Thats the difference.
I love your vids!!!

no shit.
Both of these were over 40 years old.
You wanna compare a 40year-old car to a modern car, take the Ford GT40. Then We’ll see.
