Round the Block in the Aston Martin V8
Before the new V8 Vantage, Aston Martin had the V8, and the DBS V8 before that. In 1969, Aston Martin put an alloy 5.3 litre V8 into production. When the engine was retired around 2001, it was producing 600 bhp, and had had a few modifications along the way. Aston Martin V8s are generally grouped into five series, plus the later Virage, the Vantages, the Lagonda, and a few specials, like the LM600. This car is a standard Series 3, built in 1977, LHD, and detuned for the US market. Aston …
the steering wheel is on the wrong side
great video clip and I’ve rated it as five star. Please check out my clips on vintage motor car trading cards, 1920s-1950s.
I love the noise that engineering wonder makes.
Like Katisha in “The Mikado,” I have a right hand that people have travelled miles to see, and my right elbow and ear are models of anatomical perfe…….. OOHH! You were talking about the car….. ooops….
HELLO GORGEOUS!! I love that car.
Sir! A beautiful car, one of my all time faves, tahnks for posting.
Not that I know of. If you are looking at the dark stuff on the metal behind the right rear wheel as it backs out, that was actually a bit of mud spatter on the paint work! It did wash off. I should have washed and polished it before filming, but the time was right to do the video at the time!
Does your car have rot in the back bottom corner?
Yes, everything is dual sided. But original RHD racks/dashes cost about five times as much as a LHD racks/dashes. Everything needs to be re-piped, which is a major job on any aston. New throttle linkages etc.I’ve done a few so I know what challenges are presented. A completly new wiring loom which is problematic to make it work without shorting it out. All browns and whites in the circuits are un-fused = sparky sparky! But there’s never been a problem with an aston that money can’t resolve:)
I think it can be done for less. Most of the bits are there. The biggest expenses are the dash top and the steering rack. Most other bits are ‘dual sided,’ to make manufacturing easier. And as they were all hand-built, they are also more easily hand modifiable.
It’s not easy, but possible, and it will cost about £25000 sterling, or about 50000USD
Now that’s what I call proper motoring! Cool license plate!
thanks for sharing this video. Great car.
i love it
THE GREATEST, AM never made a better DB than Wm Towns’ masterpiece. Thanks for sharing. Make mine,’bahama yellow’
Excellent video! I just bought a V8 car art poster from cartech49 dot gr. Great fun art for my garage wall!
that is a VERY pretty car
I quite agree, but as everyone is driving on the wrong side of the road, the two problems kind of cancel out.
As an aside, it appears to be fairly easy to convert the car from LHD to RHD and vice versa.
